Mission
The Department of Chemistry, Life Sciences and Environmental Sustainability integrates the core activities of the University life into a harmonious and synergic framework: research, teaching and third mission. The interaction and collaboration between researchers and teachers with diversified and highly qualified skills, are the basis of innovative and integrated approaches to address the challenges that face the planet. Students have access to courses taught by teachers with an international experience and have access to modern and well equipped research laboratories in the fields of Chemistry, Biology, Natural and Geological Sciences. Teaching and research activities also benefit by the presence in Parma of the Botanical Garden, the Natural History, Paleontology and Mineralogy museums and of the Crystal Chemistry museum.
Sustainability is one of the cornerstones of the Department and plays a transversal role in the various research areas that include new materials, green technologies, new investigation techniques and the prediction models of biological and geological systems.
The Department also aims to be the driving force for the economic activities of the territory in the fields of agro- and food-industry, energy production, waste cycle management and in the development of new materials and devices for sensors.
Dissemination and technology transfer are the heart of the third mission and exploit the rich and diverse cultural environment of the Department to enrich citizenship, institutions and productive realities.
